Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has called for an extraordinary meeting of KYSEA, the Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense. On Sunday June 16th at 17.30 pm, members of the Council have met at the Maximos mansion to discuss the ongoing threats by the Turkish Government and the developments in the wider region of the Mediterranean Sea.
Alexis Tsipras is to chair the meeting, while all the political and military leadership will be there. Among the matters of greater concern that will be discussed during that meeting, the intense violations by Turkish jets on a daily basis are definitely high on the agenda.

Obviously, there are many rumors that have yet to be confirmed. For example, there has been great speculation regarding the deployment of Greek troops to the Greek islands of the Aegean. Such news has not been confirmed and hence it should not be considered true. According to the Greek Ministry of Defense, “The operational order of the Greek Armed Forces is the usual one…any deployments took place as part of the exercise “STORM 2019″ which was completed on Friday 14 June 2019.”
As to the illegal drilling in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, no confirmation has been realized so far. This means that the claims by Turkish officials cannot be validated and therefore no actions can be taken. But it is still a matter of concern that needs to be discussed.
In the light of upcoming Elections on July 7th, this is an emerging crisis that demands immediate handling on behalf of the Greek Government.
